Part of Diageo's Special Releases for 2016, this the 16th release of the Lagavulin 12yo and also forms part of the distillery's 200th anniversary celebrations this year. Although these annual releases are limited editions, Diageo do not disclose how many bottles of the 12yo were produced. Aged in refill American oak hogsheads and bottled at cask strength of 57.7%.
Nose: Powerful and punchy with smoked kippers, a sweet earthiness and notes of rubber.
Palate: Very coastal (sea spray) along with smokey ash and tar, followed by pepper, honey, citrus, and caramel.
Finish: Lingering spicy oak, ginger, and more tar with the peat slowly fading.
