The latest release from Glenlivet is a limited edition of 33,000 bottles, and follows a very similar and mysterious path as the Glenlivet Alpha (released in 2013), in that very few details about the whisky are being shared. All we know, according to master distiller, Alan Winchester, is that the new expression features a cask makeup never before used by the distillery, and that it is nonchillfiltered and bottled at 48%.
There are no official tasting notes, and no further details about the casks used (yet); an interesting concept (although not particularly novel the 2nd time around) that definitely creates some intrigue. We have only had a quick taste and we are sufficiently impressed; we'll drink some more of the coming days and add our tasting notes here, but suffice to say the Glenlivet distillery character is evident with cinnamon and ginger spice, fruit (those Glenlivet pears!) and honey.
