This small batch Kentucky straight bourbon is named in honor of the Baptist Reverend Elijah Craig (mid-1700s), from Virginia, who the Heaven Hill company dubiously credits with the invention of "true Kentucky Bourbon" by being the first to barrel-aged spirit in charred oak casks. The 12yo was discontinued earlier this year in favour of a no-age-statement release, but thankfully we still have a few bottles (while they last). Bottled at 47%.
Nose: A beautiful note of sweet toasted oak, toffee, spicy stewed fruits, a touch of resin and a lovely pouring custard.
Palate: Full and sublimely smooth with notes of stewed apples and a touch of aniseed and spice.
Finish: Good length with toasted oak notes and a creamy sweetness.
