This is the 6th release of Compass Box's Flaming heart. Inspired by a rock song, it was first released in 2006, and then only released every few years when CB have the appropriate combination of aged whiskies. The style combines the bold spiciness of whisky aged in heavy-toasted French oak barrels with the smoke of heavy-peated Islay malt whisky. This 2018 edition also has a subtle sherry cask influence adding additional complexity. Only 15,050 bottles released. Nonchillfiltered, naturally coloured and bottled at 48.9%.
Nose: A medium smoky-peaty base is enriched by a sweet maltiness and baking spices, dried fruit and a waxy note.
Palate: Rich and deep with wood smoke, vanilla custard and apple. A balanced spiciness with leather and vanilla.
Finish: Lingering smoke, ash and slightly drying.
