A classic expression first released in 1993, The Balvenie 12yo DoubleWood is matured for at least 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads before being moved to Spanish oak, ex-Oloroso sherry casks for an additional several months of finishing. The whisky is then transferred to large oak vessels called “tuns” for a few months to marry and integrate the flavours before bottling. Bottled at 43%.
Nose: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.
Palate: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavours - nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
Finish: Long and warming.
