Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 harvesting took place between 24 February and 2 March 2016 from Franschhoek vineyards with an average yield of 8 tons per hectare. Grapes are hand-picked, placed into small lug boxes and transported to the cellar in refrigerated trucks. In the cellar, the whole berries are sorted with an optical sorter and then gravity-fed into wooden fermenters. Each batch is cold-soaked for a few days and then slowly brought up in temperature. Fermentation takes place naturally in the wooden tanks. The wine is then aged for 24 months in 80% new French oak. After bottling the wine is bottle-aged for another 24 months. Bottled at 14.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: The wine presents a complex ever-yielding nose with hints of vanilla with dark red berries and blackcurrant, pencil shavings and cigar box, with great follow through to the palate.
Palate: There is an upfront, full and generous mouthfeel with an elegant, yet firm tannin structure. Notes of black berries and plums.
Finish: A rich powerful and lingering finish with notes of oak spice..
Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir specific wines.
