Scotch Regions

Scotland is divided into five officially recognised regions, but whisky-lovers the world-over add a sixth unofficial "Islands" region. More than anything, these regions give us a sense of location, although it has been common practise to generalise the style of a region to make it easier for consumers to find something new, based on a style they know they like. This approach holds value, but it is important to know there are plenty of exceptions, as it is the distillers themselves that decide what style of whisky they want to make, not their location. We recommend you rather understand why the whisky you like, tastes like it does, and then discover other producers who follow similar regiments and thus will produce a similar style.
