Grapes for the Myburgh Bros. Viognier 2021 were harvested from a vineyard situated on Joostenberg farm in the south-western corner of the Paarl appellation. This 21 year old vineyard is farmed according to organic principles. The picking dates were staggered in order to capture both natural acidity (early picking) and riper, hedonistic flavours (later picking). Grapes were sorted and whole bunch pressed. Natural fermentation took place in 225-litre and 500-litre old oak barrels. Bottling took place after 5 months of maturation on lees. Bottled at 13.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Peach, apricot and spicy aromas.

Palate: Fruit driven entry, notes of stone fruits like peach and apricot following through from the nose. Medium-bodied with a rich and oily texture.

Finish: A dry and long finish. Good acidity balancing out the fruity and rich nature of the wine.

Joostenberg was purchased by the Myburgh family in 1879, and ownership has remained with the family ever since. In 1947 winemaking ceased, and for the following 52 years grapes were sold to the local co-op. In 1999, brothers Tyrrel and Philip Myburgh, the 5th generation of Myburghs to farm this land, resumed the winemaking tradition. Today Joostenberg is a small, family owned and managed wine farm producing an exclusive range of wine with special emphasis on individuality, natural winemaking and environmental accountability through organic farming - full organic status was achieved in 2012.
