Launched as part of Diageo's now discontinued Flora & Fauna range. Created in the early 1990s by United Distillers Vintners (what would later become Diageo), this range initially had no name and it was only when famous whisky writer Michael Jackson nicknamed it the 'Flora and Fauna' series (after the bottles’ wildlife themed labels) did it stick. This Benrinnes 15yo is partially* triple distilled, the only Speyside whisky to do so at the time. Bottled at 43%.

*Up until 2009 a portion of the Benrinnes spirit was triple distilled, but it was mixed with their standard double distilled spirit, hence partially triple distilled.

Nose: A rich nose, presenting an early impression of chocolate liqueurs - perhaps rum filled, although there is a light sherry-wood note as well. Light smokiness, and a dense floral note. 'Vintage car upholstery' describes it best. An evocative combination of old leather, oil, burnt rubber and exhaust fumes.

Palate: Richly sweet, full, rum-like, with a centre palate impact. In spite of the sweetness, not cloying.

Finish: Dries out slightly in the finish, where there is also a 'catch' which might be taken for peat-smoke. Medium length, leaving a faintly sherried aftertaste.
