Grapes for the Ramnasgras Cinsault 2020 were harvested from a single vineyard planted in 1954 on decomposed granite soils. The vineyard has a southeast exposition and is 1.6ha. The grapes are sorted meticulously in the vineyard and transported in small picking boxes to a refrigerated container where they are left overnight to cool. The whole bunches are fermented in old, seasoned wooden vats and pumped over once daily. When fermentation is almost complete, the grapes are pressed, and the wine is moved to a big foudre for 12 months. This wine was bottled directly off its gross lees. Bottled at 11.5%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Lots of red fruit notes, fresh strawberries and raspberries, pomegranate and watermelon. Hints of salinity.

Palate: Plenty of fresh fruit characteristics, similar to the nose, strawberries, raspberries and watermelon.

Finish: Light body with medium acidity and a medium length finish.

A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. 28ha of old bushvines grow in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain. Owned by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst, their grandfather was the farm manager of Groot Constantia for 46 years. Together these two have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in the 1930′s to make natural wines in the traditional manner.
