Nastergal Red 2020 is produced from a blend of 56% Tempranillo, 11% Alicante Bouschet, 11% Tinta Francesa, 10% Touriga Nacional, 6% Souzao and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Tempranillo is sourced from shale soil found along the Berg River in Wellington and the Alicante Bouschet grapes and small parcels of Touriga Nacional, Souzao and Touriga Francesa are from the foothills of Stellenbosch mountain. Deep red, well-drained soils of shale and sandstone buffer these vines from extreme conditions. The components of this wine are vinified separately. All are fermented naturally in open top fermenters, with some whole-bunch fermentation. After gentle pressing the wine is matured in French oak (6% new) for 12 months prior to blending and bottling. Nose: Aromas of vibrant plum and blueberries co-existing with intense spices, and black pepper on the nose.

Palate: Fruit forward entry with notes of raspberries, plums and prunes standing out. Mid-palate has a bit more savoury tones with hints of sweet-spice.

Finish: Robust tannins with lingering notes of black pepper and olives.
