Van Loggerenberg Lötter Cinsaut 2022 is produced from the second oldest registered red wine vineyard in the country, planted in 1932 by Koos Lötter on his farm in Franschhoek. These old bush vines are dryland farmed and produce really exceptional fruit. The soils are decomposed granite with underlying sandstone, which gives this wine its elegance and finesse. The grapes were 100% destemmed. In 2022, this vineyard only produced 1.5 tons per hectare. All grapes were left to ferment naturally with one punch-down performed daily. The wines underwent malolactic fermentation in 2nd- and 3rd-fill French oak. The wine was racked once after malolactic fermentation and stayed in the oak for 10 months. No enzymes or commercial yeast was used in making the wines. Bottled at 13%. (Bottle size 750ml)
Nose: Lovely concentrated whiffs of dark red fruits, blackberry, plums and dates in particular. Subtle hints of sweet spice and sour cherries.
Palate: On entry beautiful bright red fruit greets you, cherries and plums in particular. Mid-palate has an elegant medium weight with hints of dry sweet spice.
Finish: Soft tannin structure with lingering dark red fruit notes such as blackberry and dates.
