Fruit was sourced from a farm named Rustenhof, situated in the Faure area with an abundance of lovely Cinsaut, amongst many other varieties. Planted in 1975 and 1988, this dryland, bush-vine block is planted in granite and sand. Unique to their usual red winemaking style, they destem the Cinsaut before fermentation. Cinsaut has a lower acidity than Pinot noir and Syrah, so they like to capture the little acidity that it has (whole bunch ferments tend to reduce acidity). Much like the Pinot Gris, the 2022 rendition of the Cinsaut has moved to 100% concrete for fermentation and ageing. To capture the fresher, brighter characters of Cinsaut, the use of concrete helps preserve the bright fruit and energy of the wine. After fermentation on skins is complete, they drain and press to concrete tanks for 6 months of elevage before bottling. Bottled at 12%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Fresh fruit characters, in particular red cranberries and strawberries. Floral fynbos aromas with hints of sweet spice and subtle salinity.

Palate: On entry cherries and plums. Lovely floral elegance accompanied by subtle savoury sweet spice.

Finish: Beautiful acidity, with a mineral and slightly salty finish. Very moreish and appealing with a soft tannin structure.
