Produced by Thinus Krüger, winemaker at Fram Wines, grapes for the Fram Chenin Blanc 2023 were sourced from a 1985 trellised vineyard growing on granite soil situated in Piekenierskloof in the Citrusdal Mountains. This vintage took 9 months to never even finish primary fermentation, resulting in a dense and richly layered Chenin and many sleepless nights. Matured for 12 months in a combination of old 300-, 400- and 500-litre oak barrels. Bottled at 14%. (Bottle size 750ml)

Nose: Enticing stone fruit and tropical fruit aromas of peach, apricot, mango and melon.

Palate: Fruit forward with a juicy supple richness to it. Notes of apricot, mango, pineapple, and peach. Mid-palate shows a lovely rich texture.

Finish: A refreshing acidity with lingering aromas of honey and peach.

Fram Wines is a passion project that turned into a lifelong pursuit when Thinus Krüger decided to forge his own way after 12 years of working for larger wineries. Fram, meaning to move forward in Icelandic, is named after a Norwegian exploration vessel that went to both the North and South Pole around 120 years ago. As a member of the Swartland Independent Producers, Thinus has become known for creating beautifully balanced wines that seek to reflect terroir and speak the language of the soil. Although Thinus is known among his peers as having a rather experimental approach in the cellar, he believes in sticking to the fundamentals when it comes to making good wine. His project is centred in parts of Swartland so remote he calls them the ‘here be dragons’ areas, a reference to old maps that drew dragons on the edges of areas unexplored by westerners, warning of unknown dangers. Thinus works with winegrowers in these remote areas, with a natural approach and minimal intervention. His vision is to make wine that focuses on freshness and lively fruit. His small-production range has a loyal following.
